rob kohler2Rob Kohler is a bassist who has performed jazz, classical, and pop music all over the world. His playing, composing, and producing skills have appeared on recordings by groups such as the Jared Burrows Trio, the Olem Alves Band, Three Form, This World, and the Platt/Kohler Trio. Rob is a regular performer at the Bozeman Bass Bash in his native Montana and has also toured and performed with such artists as Stefan Karlsson, Alice DiMicele, Madeline Eastman, John Stowell, Danny Gottlieb, Nancy King, Brian Bromberg, and Art Lande. In addition to his amazing performing skills, Kohler has had a long and successful career as a private tutor and school music teacher. He is currently based in Los Angeles, California and also works in San Francisco with the Stanford Jazz Workshop as a faculty member and administrator.

brad turner2Brad Turner’s phenomenal talents as a trumpeter, pianist, drummer and composer make him one of Canada´s most-in-demand musicians. Brad has performed and/or recorded with such artists as Joe Lovano, Kenny Wheeler, Michael Moore, Reneé Rosnes, Achim Kaufmann, John Scofield, Ingrid Jensen, Dylan van der Schyff, Mike Murley, Mark Helias, Charles McPherson and Gary Bartz. Brad’s groups have opened for McCoy Tyner, Roy Haynes, Wayne Shorter, Clarke Terry and Diana Krall. As a leader, Brad has released five albums, four with his quartet, the most recent being the 2005 release What Is, and one with his piano trio, the 2004 release, Question the Answer, nominated for a 2005 Canadian Urban Music Award, and a 2006 Canadian Indie Music award. In 1997 and 1998 Brad won Juno Awards for Best Contemporary Jazz Album recognizing his work in the internationally established electric jazz group Metalwood. Winner of National Jazz Awards for Jazz Trumpeter of the Year (1999), Jazz Composer of the Year (2000 and 2002), Brad was awarded Musician of the Year for 2005.

jared_at_phs.28184254_stdDr. Jared Burrows is a guitarist, composer, educator and producer based in Vancouver, BC, Canada. He leads the Jared Burrows Trio, Quartet and Sextet, The Vancouver Improviser’s Orchestra, and is involved with many other ensembles in the Vancouver area including: Dave Robbins’ Electric Band, Delta Quartet, Brad Muirhead Quartet, Colin MacDonald’s Pocket Orchestra, Djangophilia, Len Aruliah Sextet, Koan, Tim Barrett Trio, Sukha Trio, and the Curtis Andrews Offering.
With these and many other bands he has performed extensively on the concert stage, festivals, radio and television throughout Canada and the USA. He has also worked as a studio player, mastering engineer and producer on local projects and operates the independent record label, Third Rail Music.

 

dave robbinsDave Robbins is one of Canada’s premier jazz drummers and a first-rate composer, arranger and jazz educator. Though well known as a sideman for his exciting big band work and sensitive trio playing, Robbins also leads his own bands.
Dave grew up in Victoria and was educated at McGill University in Montreal where he received his Masters in Jazz Studies. While in Montreal he toured and recorded in bands with Vic Vogel, Joe Sullivan, Altsys, and the Streetnix among others. In 1996 he could no longer resist the pull of the west coast, and is thrilled to have moved back. He is kept very busy playing for Hugh Fraser, Campbell Ryga, Denzal Sinclaire, Miles Black, and Mike Allen to name a few.
Dave has played music all over the world, in countries such as Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Finland, France, Holland, and Ireland. Musicians he has performed with include: Gary Bartz, Dee Daniels, Slide Hampton, Buddy Montgomery, Bob Minzer, Kenny Werner, and Dave Young.
Dave is also very involved as an educator. After teaching at McGill’s Conservatory of Music while in Montreal, he is now on the music faculty at Capilano University where he instructs arranging, drums, piano, and large ensembles. As well as institutional educating, Dave does clinics and private instructing.
